Dear Fredy

As a Jewish gay man, Fredy Hirsch defied the stereotypes that came to define homosexuals and Jews in Nazi Europe. He was an accomplished athlete and a non-intellectual, who did not hide his sexual identity. A beloved PE teacher and youth leader, first at Theresienstadt and later at Auschwitz, he used his charisma and connections with SS officers to make life a little easier for the children he supervised, shielding them, even if temporarily, from the horrors outside. Featuring rare images and interviews, this powerful documentry is a moving tribute to a true hero.
